Some days ago I came across an article regarding the disappearance of a man named Lovinsky Pierre Antoine. It was in an old section of an online site, preserved without much in the way of telling when it was written. I was lucky to have found it at all. It was sadly matter of fact, and it made me want to know who this man is, and whether he was ever seen again.
I searched the web for information, and found a site with very in depth coverage. This coverage, this information presented as it is, left me feeling so sad and angry.
I realized from reading the entries posted by the site owner, just what kind of man Lovinsky Pierre Antoine was, for I fear he is gone and lost to Haiti forever except in your respectful remembrance, and infinite longing for his presence.
He stays within me also, as does President Aristide, but Lovinsky is more reachable somehow. Both these men make me believe, by example, goodness still exists in a world full of poisonous snakes dressed as politicians and other unmentionable beings.
I want this letter to be my official first letter to you dear Haiti.
I want to tell you I join you in your subdued mourning, and your perpetual respect for so heroic a man, who probably lived a life of modesty and humility, going forward to do what he understood as being essential.
Tonight, as I write this, tears run from my eyes for your fallen valiant warrior, who fought against the arrogant self-serving unjust, and indifferent elite power mongers who crush the common people with an iron boot.
May his spirit rise again, and another brave hearted soul come forward to help you gain that which is your right to have.
I extend my hand and heart to you who are so far away. You remain firmly in my mind.
